about

1941
Honeybee sits on the side of a dusty street corner, playing her guitar as she always does, trying make some money for the day. When a frantically driven car comes to a stop right in front of her. As she looks up a man in a dark suit with cigar in his mouth is walking up to her.

The man in the suit reaches into the back of his car and pulls out a guitar case and what looks like a large wooden box with a cloth front. He opens the case to show Honeybee the strangest guitar she has ever seen. One large slab of painted wood, and a long straight neck with a wavy head. The man runs a wire from the guitar to the box and hands Honeybee the guitar. And smiles at her to try playing it.

Honeybee goes back to playing this new guitar as the man in the suit watches and smiles. He climbs back into his car and leaning out the door he asks

(The man in the suit)
“So what do ya say Honeybee?”

(Honeybee)
“Deal…”

The man in the suit grins at her one last time as the engine revs up and the he speeds away, a minute or two later a police car comes barreling down the street the direction the man had driven off to. Honeybee ponders the man’s advice about heading north, Joe used to tell her that's where they really appreciate the music that they both loved.
